Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama both courtside for Wings-Storm

There was no shortage of basketball star power at the College Park Center on Monday night.

The excitement surrounding the Dallas Wings and the rest of the WNBA is at an all-time high as the 2025 season kicked off over the weekend.

The Wings began the year with a 99-84 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, but were back at it Monday night at UT-Arlington’s College Park Center against the Seattle Storm.

Two big-time NBA stars were on hand for the matchup, including Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki and Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama. It’s Nowitzki’s first time seeing Wings 2025 No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers play for Dallas.

“It’s going to take a while to obviously get used to the physicality in the WNBA, but I think she’s got the talent, she’s going to be amazing for us and she’s just going to get better from game to game, from season to season,” Nowitzki said of Bueckers in an interview during the game’s broadcast.

“Winning the draft lottery is always big,” Nowitzki said. “It’s great to have good young talent come in for your franchise. In most cases, it can turn your frnachise around.”
