End of third period
Both teams had their chances in the final regulation period, but it was tremendous goalkeeping that kept the game scoreless and headed to overtime.
“It’s tight,” Tyler Seguin said between periods. “... It’s probably going to come down to the first mistake tonight by either team.”
14.8 seconds: Mark Scheifele took down Sam Steel just as the Stars skater crossed the blue line, earning a tripping penalty and the first power play that will carry over into overtime. There was a discussion among pundits about whether it should have been a penalty shot, but it wasn’t awarded.
2:02: The game remains tied, 1-1, after more strong saves by the dueling goalkeepers.
8:32 remaining: Somehow, the game remains tied 1-1 after Jake Oettinger dove across an open net to deflect a Mason Appleton shot back into play.
That was an unbelievable save by Jake Oettinger. Wow.

12:51 remaining: Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey hasn’t officially been ruled out of the game yet, according to the broadcast. But he hasn’t played this period.
15:45 remaining: Both teams had spurts of scoring opportunities, with frantic moments in front of the net. But the game remains tied, 1-1.
19:40 remaining: At the beginning of the final regulation period, broadcasters confirmed Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey likely wouldn’t return for the rest of the game after an apparent injury. Moments later, Mikko Rantanen just missed putting the Stars ahead.
End of second period
With momentum tilting the Jets’ way, Sam Steel’s powerful slapshot on a rebound pulled the Stars even at 1-1 and energized the home crowd. The period picked up from there with plenty of back-and-forth action and scoring opportunities for both teams. But both goaltenders are living up to their billing. Only one penalty was called through the first two periods, but with the Jets scoring on the delayed penalty, it did not lead to a power play. (Something to monitor: Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey went down the tunnel and back to the locker room after suffering an apparent injury.)
Stars 1, Jets 1: Sam Steel blasts a slapshot past Connor Hellebuyck high to his glove side to tie the score with 8:48 remaining. It’s Steel’s first goal of the playoffs and it’s a new game as the action picks up in the second period. The AAC crowd is buzzing.

9:18 remaining: Winnipeg is controlling play in the second as the Jets now have a 13-7 lead in shots on goal. It continues to be a clean game overall with no power plays.
Jets 1, Stars 0: The Jets strike first, and it’s Mark Scheifele scoring on a rebound off a Kyle Connor shot with 14:32 remaining in the period. Remember, Scheifele is playing one day after his father passed away. Sometimes, you can’t script sports drama.
15:40 remaining: A similar start as the first period, with back-and-forth action but neither team asserting dominance to start.
End of first period
The game remains scoreless after the first period. After an uneventful start to the period, the Stars turned up the pressure in the final few minutes, but couldn’t get the puck in the net. The first period was penalty-free.
End of first: Stars 0, Jets 0

Stars are on their toes in this one with a 6-0 advantage in high-danger scoring chances that period.
They're buzzing, but have missed some open nets, and Hellebuyck has made a few big stops.
1:34 remaining: The Stars are peppering the net now. Dallas controlled the puck for more than a minute in the offensive zone, but Connor Hellebuyck held steady. The Stars have a 6-2 shots on goal advantage now, though.
5:37 remaining: The game remains scoreless, with neither team taking control in the first period. Shots on goal are 2-2.
10:15 remaining: The Stars have turned up the pressure in the first period, but Tyler Seguin missed an open net with a backhand attempt. Officially, shots on goal are 1-1 but Dallas has had the better opportunities.
15:08 remaining: Connor Hellebuyck is sharp early. Evgenii Dadonov tried a wraparound move that was smothered by the Jets goaltender as Sam Steel was lurking in front of the net for the Stars. It was the best scoring chance for either team so far.
Start of game: The game is under way and center Mark Scheifele is on the ice for the Jets. Scheifele’s father passed away Friday night.
