No “Mikko Magic” in Game 2.

The Dallas Stars fell to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday in rather quiet fashion, dropping Game 2 4-0 to tie this second-round series at 1-1.

After a shaky performance in Round 1, Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck showed what all the hype is about as the soon-to-be 3-time Vezina winner kept the Stars off the board for 60 minutes.

The Jets add an empty-netter to seal this one. This series will head back to Dallas knotted up at a game apiece.

14:18 left in the third: Dallas killed off one power play but will go right back on the kill after a cross checking call on Lian Bichsel.

20:00 left in the third: Mason Marchment, who exited the second period after taking a big hit, is back on the bench to start the third.

End of the second period

The Stars will face an uphill climb in the third period, not only trailing by three goals but also needing to kill off a Mikko Rantanen penalty to start the final frame.

3:00 left in the second: The Stars remain three goals down, but defender Alexander Petrovic just delivered perhaps the check of the playoffs.

5:00 left in the second: This is the version of Connor Hellebuyck that was expected in the playoffs. The one that’s on his way to his third straight Vezina Trophy.

The Jets net another and things look dire for the Stars in Game 2.

10:00 left in the second: The first half of the second period goes quietly with the Stars still trailing by two.

End of the first period

The Stars are in a hole early, trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes in Game 2.

3:00 left in the first: The Stars kill off the Jets penalty and will look to get on the board in the final minutes of the first period.

5:16 left in the first: A power play that never really got going ends early for Dallas after another penalty on Jamie Benn. Dallas will have to kill off about 1:30 of Winnipeg power play before the end of the period.

6:48 left in the first: The Stars will have another chance on the power play after another high-sticking call.

Right off a successful penalty kill, the Jets strike again. Winnipeg has come out looking like the more desperate team and it’s paid off.

14:15 left in the first: This time it’s Tyler Seguin drawing the penalty. The Stars will go on their first power play of the night looking to get back the Jets’ early goal.

The Stars killed off the first half of the double minor but Winnipeg came through in the second.

Jake Oettinger made the initial stop on a Jets shot but Gabriel Vilardi followed up on the rebound to give Winnipeg the early lead.

19:43 left in the first: 17 seconds into Game 2 the Stars are dinged with a double-minor penalty. The Dallas penalty kill will be tested early after a high-sticking call on Tyler Seguin.
