Texas Rangers name minor league monthly award winners — and one of them is in the majors

Blaine Crim, who made his major league debut just last week, was named Player of the Month for April.

DETROIT — Blaine Crim, who made his major league debut just last week, was named the Texas Rangers minor league Player of the Month for April.

A couple of other award winners might not be far behind: Right-hander Cole Winn was named the reliever of the month and outfielder Alejandro Osuna, who is tearing up Double-A both offensively and defensively was named the defender of the month. Young starter David Davalillo, who is currently at advanced Class A Hub City (Spartanburg, S.C.) was named the starting pitcher of the month.

Crim, 27, batted .313/.365/.565/.930 (36-115) with seven home runs, one triple, six doubles, 25 RBI, and 17 runs scored in 28 games for Round Rock. He was tied for the Pacific Coast League lead in homers with seven and ranked in the top 10 in RBIs, slugging and OPS. It’s the third time Crim has won the player of the month award over the last three seasons. He was promoted to the big leagues on May 2.

Winn, 25, went 2-0 and did not allow a run in 17 2/3 innings at Round Rock. He struck out 18, had a 0.85 WHIP and allowed opponents a .169 batting average. He was the Rangers first-round pick in 2018 and made his MLB debut last year. He could soon factor into the Rangers’ bullpen plans if they need another multi-inning relief option.
