Texas Rangers’ Kyle Higashioka set for weekend rehab assignment at Triple-A

Higashioka has been out since April 30 with a strained intercostal muscle.

DETROIT - Catcher Kyle Higashioka will begin what should be a two-day rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

Higashioka, out since April 30 with a strained intercostal muscle and some hamstring soreness, will DH for the Express at El Paso on Saturday and is expected to catch on Sunday. The Rangers will re-evaluate after that.

He is eligible to return from the injured list as early as Saturday. The Rangers have used Tucker Barnhart as the backup catcher in Higashioka’s absence.
