The American air strike on Iranian nuclear sites came over a week after Israel launched its first strike on the heart of Iran’s nuclear and military structure. The move from Israel sparked a conflict between the two countries, raising the potential for an all-out war.

President Donald Trump wrote on social media that U.S. forces successfully struck three nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan, including dropping a “full payload of BOMBS” on Iran’s primary site.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a social media post Sunday evening that he stands with Trump.

Later, he said Texas is raising the readiness level of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas National Guard to address any potential threats. This preparation includes “increasing patrols around high-risk locations.” His office didn’t immediately respond to a question asking about the locations.

Other Texas Republicans quickly flooded social media with praise for the president’s leadership and the U.S. military.

Several Texas Democrats have spoken out, saying the president violated the law by not seeking congressional approval.

Whether and for how long the president can authorize military force is complicated, but Congress has historically been involved.

As far as public opinion goes, an Economist/YouGov poll conducted June 13 to 16 found 16% respondents back a U.S. military intervention in the conflict between Israel and Iran, compared with 60% who opposed it. Among those who voted for Trump in 2024, the poll found 53% opposing a strike against Iran.
