Victims of deadly weekend head-on collision on Dallas North Tollway identified

The Sunday crash killed two people and injured two others

The victims involved in a fatal head-on collision on Sunday on Dallas North Tollway, including the driver police say caused the crash, have been identified.

At about 4:34 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of Dallas North Tollway just north of Interstate 635, according to a news release from DPS.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2020 Dodge Durango — driven by 32-year-old James Souder of Dallas — was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the tollway when he collided head-on with a 2018 Mercedes CLA250, the release said.

The driver of the Mercedes, identified by DPS officials as Latasha Jones, 47, of Garland, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A passenger in the Mercedes was taken to a local hospital, where they died, authorities said. DPS officials identified the victim as 37-year-old Quinisha Hall.

A second passenger, identified as Kaliesha Smith, 31, was taken to the hospital for treatment of “critical injuries,” officials said. Smith’s condition is unknown as of Friday.

Souder was taken to a hospital with “serious injuries,” though his condition was unknown as of Friday. Officials said “intoxication is suspected” to be involved in the incident.

No other details about the crash were immediately available. It is still not clear if criminal charges will be filed against Souder.
