Two people were killed during a head-on, wrong-way collision on the Dallas North Tollway early Sunday, authorities said.
At about 4:34 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of Dallas North Tollway just north of Interstate 635, according to a news release from DPS.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2020 Dodge Durango was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the tollway when the driver collided into a 2018 Mercedes CLA250 head-on, the release said.
The driver of the Mercedes, who has not yet been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS officials said.
An unidentified passenger was taken to a Dallas hospital, where they died, authorities said. A third person was taken to the hospital for treatment of “critical injuries.”
The driver of the Durango was taken to a hospital in Plano with “serious injuries.” Officials said “intoxication is suspected” to be involved in the incident.
Officials did not release the identity of the driver of the Durango.
No other details about the crash were immediately available. It is not clear if criminal charges will be filed against the driver of the Durango.
The road was reopened by 11 a.m., according to the statement.
