Carrollton police officer arrested while off duty, facing sexual assault charge

Melton, 42, faces a sexual assault charge after his arrest by Irving police.

Update:
12:47 p.m. June 24, 2025: Revised to include information from an arrest-warrant affidavit.

A Carrollton police officer was arrested early Saturday in Irving on a sexual assault charge, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Irving officers responded to the 200 block of East Las Colinas Boulevard and took Wes Melton, 42, into custody at about 1 a.m., Officer Anthony Alexander, the Irving police spokesperson, said in a statement.

Melton’s attorney, Robert Rogers, disputed the charge.

“He’s completely innocent of these charges and trusts that eventually he will be cleared,” Rogers said in an interview.

Alexander declined to answer further questions Monday, citing the “sensitive nature of the charge,” and directed a reporter to submit an open records request. A records request submitted by The Dallas Morning News was pending on Monday.

Melton was off duty at the time of the arrest. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and an internal affairs investigation, Bailey Clampitt, a Carrollton police spokesperson, said in a statement.

Irving officers were called to the Omni Las Colinas Hotel early Saturday after the caller stated Melton had “trapped her in the bedroom,” according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The News.

Melton also spoke with police dispatchers, stating the caller was “accusing him of rape,” an officer wrote in the affidavit.

The woman told police she said “no” several times, the affidavit says.

Melton told police he did not recall her saying no, but he added, “whatever she says, that’s what she believes and if I go to jail, I go to jail,” the affidavit says.

Melton was no longer in Irving police custody as of Monday morning, according to jail records. Alexander did not provide booking or bond information.

Melton faces one count of second-degree sexual assault, which is punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

Melton has served as a licensed peace officer with the Carrollton Police Department since March 2024, according to state records. He is assigned to patrol, Clampitt said.

Before working in Carrollton, Melton spent nearly a decade with the Dallas Police Department, the state records show.
