Family of 4 arrested following death of 11-year-old Wylie boy, police say

Investigators say child was found with injuries when first responders were called.

The guardian and family members of an 11-year-old boy who died two days ago in Wylie have been arrested on child abuse charges in connection with his death, police said Wednesday.

The young boy was found unconscious by first responders at his home in the 1600 block of Long Meadow Road around 5:27 p.m. Monday, according to Wylie police Sgt. Donald English.

He said the victim was found with visible injuries.

The boy was taken for treatment to a local hospital, where he died, according to authorities.

English said investigators learned the boy had been intentionally physically abused. At this time, police said it can’t be determined how long the child may have been subject to alleged abuse.

Police issued a search warrant Tuesday before arresting the boy’s grandfather, Clifford Johnson, 67, and the child’s aunt, Eunice Johnson-Lightsey, 47.

According to police, the boy’s cousins, Sade Hope-Johnson York, 30, and Sadie Hope, 28, were also arrested.

The suspects have currently been charged with injury to a child and abandoning and endangering a child, according to police. Additional charges may be brought against the group, English said.

One of the family members had guardianship of the boy, English said. The boy’s biological parents and child protective services have also been notified, according to investigators.
