3-year-old boy dies after drowning in backyard pool in Arlington, police say

Arlington police called the incident a “tragic accident,” and said no criminal charges are expected to be filed.

A 3-year-old boy died Friday afternoon when he drowned in a backyard pool in Arlington, police say.

Officers were called about 4:45 p.m. to a home in the 2100 block of Overbrook Drive, where they were met in the front yard by an adult carrying an unresponsive toddler.

According to Tim Ciesco, an Arlington police spokesman, officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The boy, 3, who was not publicly identified, was then taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators believe the boy got outside while his family was inside the home.

As soon as his family noticed he wasn’t in the room with them, Ciesco said, they began looking for him, ultimately finding him in the backyard pool.
