Kendall Miller, the only head football coach Frisco Emerson has ever had, is leaving the school to become the athletic director for Plano ISD.
Miller confirmed the move in a text message Wednesday.
Miller was hired at Emerson in 2021 before the school opened that fall. Emerson played a junior varsity schedule its first season and then went 28-9 under Miller in its first three varsity seasons.
The highlight was a 12-3 season in 2023, when Emerson reached the Class 5A Division II state semifinals in its second varsity season. That was Miller’s most wins in a season.
“I’m incredibly honored to step into this new role and could not be more excited to join a premier district with such a strong tradition of excellence,” Miller said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the athletics programs and to support the students, staff and families who make Plano ISD so special. I look forward to working alongside dedicated educators and coaches to help student athletes grow both on and off the field.”
Miller was the head coach at South Oak Cliff from 2009 to 2011 and had a record of 29-6, including back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2010 and 2011. He compiled a record of 44-43 in nine years as the head coach at Garland Lakeview from 2012 to 2020 and has a career record of 101-58.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kendall Miller as our new Athletic Director,” Plano ISD superintendent Theresa Williams said in a statement. “Coach Miller brings a wealth of knowledge, proven leadership and a statewide reputation for excellence. He is highly respected among his peers and we are confident he is the perfect fit to lead our athletic programs with the integrity, passion and vision that define Plano ISD.”
At Plano ISD, Miller will replace Lonnie Jordan, who left to become the executive director of athletics for Richardson ISD in April.
In addition to his coaching success, Miller was chosen as the president-elect for the Texas High School Coaches Association in July 2022. Miller currently serves on the Board of Directors as Past President of the THSCA.
