Five-star basketball recruit Finley Chastain transfers to Walnut Grove, commits to OU

Chastain, rated the No. 2 recruit in Texas for the Class of 2027, left charter school Oak Cliff Faith Family.

Five-star point guard Finley Chastain has found her college basketball home and also has a new high school to call home.

Chastain, rated the No. 2 recruit in Texas and the 21st-best player in the nation in the Class of 2027 by 247Sports, has left charter school Oak Cliff Faith Family and is now at Prosper Walnut Grove. The move was confirmed Wednesday night by Mike Aduddell, a coach for the Southwest Select 3SSB club team that Chastain plays for.

Chastain and Walnut Grove coach Dawn Kiel did not respond to messages seeking comment.

On Tuesday, Chastain announced her commitment to Oklahoma, giving the Sooners their second big recruiting win of 2025 in the state of Texas. Five-star McDonald’s All-American Aaliyah Chavez — the Gatorade National Player of the Year this past season and once the No. 1 recruit in the nation in the Class of 2025 — announced in March that she was signing with OU after leading Lubbock Monterey to the Class 5A Division II state title.

It will be the third high school in three years for Chastain, who spent her freshman year at Montverde Academy, a prep school in Florida, and then transferred to Faith Family for her sophomore year. Chastain attended Lorene Rogers Middle School in Prosper as an eighth-grader, when she became one of the top recruits in the country.

Chastain committed to eight-time national champion Tennessee in eighth grade before decommitting in April 2024. While she was in eighth grade she trained with a personal coach who also worked with NBA All-Star Julius Randle, and Chastain is now the No. 2-ranked point guard in the country in the Class of 2027.

Faith Family announced in November that it was leaving the University Interscholastic League for all sports after the UIL banned its girls basketball team from the playoffs for the 2024-25 season and suspended head coach Andrea Robinson and assistant coaches Kadi Creel and Jordan Jones for two years. The coaches were found guilty of recruiting violations after the school brought in 18 transfers for girls basketball, but by leaving the UIL, they never had to serve their suspensions.

The Faith Family girls played a national schedule and joined the Texas Christian Athletic League last season. Faith Family was selected for the Chipotle Nationals and lost to Montverde Academy in the semifinals.
