Grapevine defeats Lubbock-Cooper; Aledo forces Game 3 with win over Colleyville Heritage

Grapevine will play for a chance to go to the state semifinal and Aledo’s Devin Miller pitched a complete game vs. Colleyville Heritage.

Luke Esquivel struck out 12 and allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings to lead Grapevine to a 4-0 victory over Lubbock-Cooper in Game 1 of the best-of-3 Class 5A Division II Region I final in Brownwood.

Brady Boozer, Thomas Powers and Connor Ray each had two hits, combining for six of Grapevine’s seven hits. Boozer and Gianni Corral each drove in a run.

Grapevine has won 20 of its last 21 games, including three straight shutouts. It is one win from advancing to the state semifinal round for a second straight year. Game 2 will be Saturday in Brownwood at 1 p.m., with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

Aledo 4, Colleyville Heritage 1: Devin Miller threw a complete game with six strikeouts and no earned runs to lead Aledo past Colleyville Heritage in Game 2 of the Class 5A Division I Region I final at Fort Worth Boswell.

Luke Trager went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, including a two-run single in the first inning.

Jobe Reed struck out five over six innings for Colleyville Heritage but took the loss. Ryan Kelly had two hits, and Michael Raab drove in Heritage’s lone run.

Game 3 will be at Boswell on Saturday at 2 p.m.
